Outdoor kitchen ideas worth saving

pergola kitchen with a corner bar

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous pergola kitchen. I love the little shelves against the brick backdrop and the trailing flowers around the posts.

There’s a dining table on one side and bar seating on the other. Try that arrangement if you want more than one place to pull up a chair.

pale cabinets and black handles

If you are looking for something simple and coordinated, this one is for you. Pale plank-style cabinets run beneath a gray counter, with long black handles on the doors.

The small black wall lights are my favorite detail. They look so pretty against that broad horizontal paneling.

slatted storage and blue bottles

How cute are those blue bottles along the back? This compact setup has open slatted sides, little storage cubbies and a glass-front fridge.

For a similar decorative touch, group a few colorful bottles at one end of your serving area. You don’t need to fill the whole ledge.

an unfinished brick arch

This one is a work in progress rather than a finished kitchen. A pink exercise ball sits inside partially built brickwork, with an arch taking shape at the front.

It’s a different kind of inspiration, but the photo doesn’t establish a safe oven-building method. For an oven beside your kitchen, start with a professionally specified design rather than copying this construction.

a leafy canopy

I am obsessed with the greenery overhead. The vines follow the pergola beams and climb the post beside the long kitchen counter.

The cabinet fronts stay simple beneath all those leaves. Keep your own countertop decorations minimal if you want the planting to be the part you notice first.

lift-up front and deep drawers

If you love seeing everything in its place, take a look at these drawers! The open fronts reveal utensils and pans beneath the counter, while more pans hang along the back.

The raised front panel is an interesting detail too. I’d save this one for the storage ideas, especially that long shelf above the hanging rail.

an island with open shelves

Don’t want a whole wall of cabinets? No problem! This freestanding island pairs a thick pale countertop with two levels of open shelving.

I love the little potted plant on the bottom shelf. A few bowls and baskets would be a pretty way to organize a similar island without hiding its open frame.

poolside pendants and palms

How gorgeous is this poolside kitchen? The rounded pendant shades and golden-brown cabinet fronts look so pretty behind the pale island.

The big leafy plants are worth noticing too. Try a pair of substantial pots around your kitchen entrance if you want a similar garden-filled look.

a glowing three-seat bar

This bar may just be one of my favorites here. I love the amber lighting beneath the counter edge and the bulbs strung across the pergola.

Three tall chairs line up along the front. Keep that overhanging counter in mind when planning a place for guests to sit.

white sink and potted herbs

I am obsessed with this big white apron-front sink. It’s so pretty with the black curved faucet and the brown counter around it.

The little white pots bring the whole display together. Try repeating one pot color for your countertop plants, then leave some space clear beside the sink.

a rustic bar beside the grills

If you like a darker rustic look, there’s plenty to save here. A large black barrel-style cooker sits beside a separate grill, with a long bar opposite.

The round stools and hanging plant are my favorite finishing touches. Small bulbs run around the overhead beams without adding lots of extra decoration.

washed-out boards and open cubbies

Don’t want rich brown cabinets? This pale gray look gives you another direction.

The cabinet fronts and patchwork-style wall share the same washed-out coloring.

I love the open shelves at both ends of the counter. You could use a few simple bowls there and keep the little wall decorations as your main accents.

a straight run beneath open beams

This is a lovely starting point if you want everything in one line. The sink sits toward the left, with the grill at the right and storage below.

The open pergola beams are so pretty above it. A few hanging bulbs are all the decoration this overhead space needs.

dark backdrop and slatted doors

Okay, this dark backdrop is gorgeous. I love the horizontal slats on the cabinet door and the trailing greenery above the long shelf.

The hanging glasses are a cute detail too. If you like displaying dishes, borrow the open shelf arrangement on the right and group your plates by color.

green grill and crate storage

Looking for something smaller than a full outdoor kitchen? This station keeps things compact with a green domed grill, two crate-style storage boxes and a lower log shelf.

I especially love the brown storage details against the pale surround. They give you a little of that rustic look without a whole run of cabinets.

a storybook roof and chimney

How amazing is this steep roof? The curved brown beams, tall stone-faced chimney and pointed fireplace opening give this kitchen such a storybook look.

There’s a grill to the right and seating tucked along the left counter. This is a bigger architectural idea, but that curved roof detail is worth saving all on its own.

black beams and hanging bulbs

This is one of my favorite lighting looks on the list. I love the exposed bulbs hanging at different heights beneath the black pergola.

The knot-marked cabinet fronts and dark handles look lovely together. Try a dark overhead frame if you want something different from the all-brown pergolas.

plant shelves and a prep island

If you love decorating with plants, this one is for you. There are little pots all along the upper shelf, with more greenery beside the cooking area.

The separate island has open storage at the end for bowls and baskets. I’d keep that same mix of useful pieces below and pretty plants above.

pale doors and a tall fridge nook

Don’t want a grill to be the center of your kitchen? This view focuses on a sink, pale cabinet fronts and a full-height fridge framed by a tall surround.

The narrow open shelves beside the fridge are a lovely detail. Use a similar gap for baskets or serving pieces instead of leaving it as an awkward empty space.

black cabinets beneath a brown ceiling

Last but definitely not least, we have this sleek covered kitchen. I love the brown ceiling boards with the flat black cabinet fronts!

A large hood sits above the cooking area, while the dining table runs along the side. The slim black stools at the smaller counter are such a pretty finishing touch.
