Happy toast season, you guys! I don’t know when toast became a whole personality, but here we are and I’m not mad about it, lol!
Around this time of year my kitchen counter turns into a toppings station. Jam jars, cheese wedges, half an avocado, it’s always something!
Last week we ran out of bread before we ran out of toppings, haha!
Since good bread is basically a food group in my house, I’ve gathered 20 adorable toast ideas the entire family will love. If you can work a toaster, you can make every single one of these. Don’t fret if you’ve never topped anything fancier than butter!
From ricotta and fig to smoked salmon and roasted grapes, there’s at least one idea in here you’ll want on repeat. Who doesn’t love a good excuse to eat more toast? Under each one I’ve added the little details you actually want to know, plus a link to the full recipe.
TOAST IDEAS
Ricotta Honey Fig Toast
We’re starting off strong with ricotta, honey and fig. Fig season is short, so I treat this one like a snuck-in luxury.
A drizzle of honey right before serving makes the whole slice glossy. My neighbors always ask what bakery it came from, lol!
- Fig season only
- Whipped ricotta spreads like butter
- Honey drizzled right before serving
Peanut Butter Banana Toast
Peanut butter and banana is the toast version of a childhood lunchbox. I slice the banana thin so every bite gets some.
A sprinkle of cinnamon on top turns it into something that feels a little bit fancy, haha! Who doesn’t love a nostalgic breakfast?
- Lunchbox nostalgia
- Ready in five minutes flat
- Any nut butter works here
Strawberry Cream Cheese Toast
Strawberry and cream cheese is the toast that always shows up at spring brunches. The berries get macerated with a little sugar first, which pulls out all that juice.
This one disappears fast at every potluck I bring it to. Not that I’m keeping score, haha!
- Brunch table favorite
- Berries macerate in ten minutes
- Cream cheese spreads best at room temp
Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Toast
Smoked salmon and cream cheese feels fancy but takes almost no effort. A squeeze of lemon and a few capers finish it off nicely.
This is the one I make when guests are coming and I want to look like I tried harder than I did!
A thin layer of red onion adds just the right bite.
- Fancy with zero effort
- Lemon brightens the whole thing
- Capers add the salty punch
Egg In A Basket Toast
Egg in a basket is breakfast theater. You cut a hole in the bread, crack the egg right in and fry the whole thing in butter.
It’s the crispiest part, obviously.
How cute is that little buttery piece, honestly?
- Breakfast theater
- Butter makes the edges crispy
- One egg per slice
Nutella Banana Slices Toast
Nutella and banana slices need no introduction. I warm the Nutella slightly so it spreads like a dream across the bread.
The neighborhood kids request this one on repeat, sometimes twice in the same weekend, lol!
- No introduction needed
- Nutella warms up in seconds
- Banana slices go on last
Caprese Tomato Basil Toast
Caprese toast is basically a salad that decided to sit on bread. Fresh basil, ripe tomato and a thick slice of mozzarella do all the work.
I always add a heavy drizzle of balsamic glaze on top. It ties the whole thing together every time!
- Salad on bread
- Balsamic glaze finishes it off
- Ripe tomatoes only, please
Apple Cinnamon Almond Butter Toast
Apple, cinnamon and almond butter is the toast equivalent of a cozy sweater. Thin apple slices go on top of a generous almond butter layer.
I dump in extra cinnamon and nobody in this house complains, haha!
A few chopped walnuts on top add a nice crunch too.
- Cozy sweater energy
- Apples sliced paper thin
Roasted Grape Goat Cheese Toast
Roasted grapes sound strange until you actually try them. They burst and turn almost jammy in the oven, which pairs perfectly with goat cheese.
I bring this to every brunch and it steals the show! Nobody expects grapes to win, but they do.
Who doesn’t love being pleasantly surprised by fruit?
- The surprise of the brunch
- Grapes roast at 400 degrees
- Goat cheese crumbles best cold
Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Toast
Pumpkin spice cream cheese shows up on my counter the second the weather turns. Mix pumpkin puree and spice right into softened cream cheese.
It tastes like fall decided to move into a bagel shop, lol!
A toasted pumpkin seed garnish makes it look extra festive.
- The first cold morning
- Pumpkin puree mixed in cold
- A pinch of nutmeg on top
Avocado Toast With Poached Egg
These avocado these do not get more classic than a poached egg on top. The yolk runs down into the mashed avocado and honestly that’s the whole point!
A pinch of red pepper flakes wakes the whole thing up. This one still gets me every time.
- The classic combo
- Yolk runs into the avocado
- Red pepper flakes for heat
Avocado Toast With Radish Slices
Radish slices add a crunch that plain avocado toast just doesn’t have. I slice them thin with a mandoline so they curl slightly on top.
They also add a little peppery bite that keeps every mouthful interesting.
A tiny squeeze of lime brightens the whole slice even more.
- The crunch factor
- Sliced thin on a mandoline
- Peppery bite in every piece
Avocado Toast With Feta Crumble
Feta crumble turns basic avocado toast into something salty and a little bit tangy. I let it melt just slightly against the warm bread before serving.
- Salty and tangy
- Feta softens on warm bread
- A squeeze of lime helps too
Avocado Toast With Everything Bagel Seasoning
Everything bagel seasoning belongs on more things than actual bagels. Avocado toast is proof. I sprinkle it generously right over the mashed avocado.
The sesame and garlic bits stick to every single bite! No shame in a heavy hand here, haha!
- Bagel shop energy
- Sesame and garlic in every bite
- Toasted sesame oil optional drizzle
Avocado Toast With Cherry Tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes roasted until they blister add a little sweetness to the avocado underneath. They practically melt into the bread.
How good does this combination look? Same question I ask myself every time I make it!
- Blistered and sweet
- Tomatoes blister in the oven
- Sweetness against the avocado
Sourdough Toast With Whipped Ricotta
These sourdough these always start strong with whipped ricotta. I whip it with a splash of olive oil until it turns almost fluffy.
A drizzle of warm honey on top makes this one dangerously good!
One bite and you’ll understand why I make it weekly.
- Fluffy and rich
- Whipped with olive oil
- Warm honey drizzle on top
Sourdough Toast With Sauteed Mushrooms
Sauteed mushrooms on thick sourdough taste like something you would order at a fancy weekend brunch spot. Butter, garlic and a splash of thyme make all the difference.
I let them cook down until deeply golden, which takes patience. It is worth every minute!
- Weekend brunch spot vibes
- Mushrooms cook down slowly
Sourdough Toast With Burrata Cheese
Burrata on warm sourdough is a whole experience. The cheese splits open the second my cutter touches it. There’s really nothing better, lol!
A little olive oil and flaky salt finish the whole thing off.
- The cheese pull moment
- Burrata splits open warm
- Flaky salt right at the end
Sourdough Toast With Roasted Vegetables
Roasted vegetables piled on sourdough turn leftovers into an actual meal. Zucchini, peppers and onion all work great together.
This is the toast I make when the fridge needs cleaning out and dinner still needs to happen. Who doesn’t love a meal that solves two problems at once?
A sprinkle of parmesan on top never hurts.
- Fridge cleanout special
- Roasted at 425 degrees
- Any leftover veggies work
Sourdough Toast With Butter And Jam
Last but definitely not least, we have butter and jam on toasted sourdough. Simple, old fashioned and somehow still the one people go back for!
Warm the bread until the butter melts into every little pocket. Sweet, simple and gone within minutes, same!
- Old fashioned and proud
- Any jam in the fridge works
